A court here today conceded bail to MDMK chief Vaiko, who had been in prison since April 3, in a sedition case of 2009.
Police had enrolled a case under IPC segments 124 (rebellion) and 153A (advancing animosity between various gatherings on grounds of religion, place of birth, habitation, dialect) against Vaiko for a discourse he had given while discharging his book, ‘Naan Kutram Sattugiren’ (I am Making the Accusation), in 2009.
The charge-sheet for the situation was recorded in 2010. Be that as it may, the trial is yet to initiate.
On April 3 this year, Vaiko had showed up before Metropolitan Magistrate S Gopinathan and recorded a surrender request.
Despite the fact that the officer had offered to discharge Vaiko on safeguard, he declined to apply for it. Vaiko was remanded in legal care.
Afterward, the MDMK pioneer was stopped in the Central Prison in Puzhal here.
Vaiko had moved a bail application yesterday. When it came up for hearing today, Additional City Civil Court Judge Purushothaman granted unconditional bail to him.
