Congress MLA Man Singh Rangpi resigns from the party, joined BJP

Guwahati: The Congress party has suffered a big loss since the elections polls as its member from Baithalangsu in Karbi Anglong district, Mansing Rangpi resigned from the party and joined BJP.

The Baithalansgu seat is lying vacant till now in the congress party. Rangpi resigned from the party just few days back.

“BJP is trying to increase its tally in the 126-member assembly from 60 to at least 64 to command majority on its own without the support of its allies, in view of trouble brewing in the two-month-old coalition over various issues ranging from auctioning of 12 oilfields to increasing VAT rates”, TOI reported.

According to sources, BJP’s best bet to help itself cross the halfway mark on its own in the assembly lies on Congress legislators, who can be lured out of their party and fielded again as candidates of the saffron party.

“If my resignation would be accepted by the speaker of the assembly and Congress, I would love to join BJP”, Rangpi said.

“There is utter confusion in Congress and it is drifting after the defeat in the assembly election. Congress has not been able to set its house in order but, on the contrary, BJP has been able to deliver in just one-and-a-half months of governance,” Rangpi said.

Sarma said, “Rangpi has respected the parliamentary system by resigning from the membership. He is unhappy with Congress and he chose to quit instead of carrying out dissidence by staying inside Congress.”

“He is not a kid that we can hold him back. It is his decision and we have fallen short by one member in the house,” Saikia said.
