New Delhi. A 23-year-old Congolese national was ostensibly beaten to death by a group of men in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place around 11.45 PM on Friday when the Man named M T Olivia had a heated argument with a group of three persons at Kishangadh locality in Vasant Kunj.
Following on argument, the group ambushed on Olivia, as he tried to escape, they case him for 20-25 metres and attacked him again with stones.
The reason for the argument is yet ascertain but the case is being probed from all angles including robbery and a likely racist attack on the African national.
“a case of murder has been registered. We are checking CCTV footage to identify the accused,” additional DCP (South) Nupur Prasad said.
The Embassy of Congo was informed about the episode.
Olivia used to teach foreign languages at a private institution here. He lived in South Extension area. Why he had gone to Kishangadh at that hour is still not clear, police said.
Another group of people rescued the Olivia and called up the police. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he later gave up to his injuries.
The locals however could not identify the culprits and were unable to tell the reason of argument. Investigation is underway, police added.
