Chopper Scam: Former IAF Chief visited Italy twice after retirement.

CBI is going to question again former Air Chief SP Tyagi today on Chopper Scam. He is alleged to receive bribe through his relatives. After his retirement, his visiting to Italy twice is being suspected by the CBI.

Tyagi has told CBI that he had travelled to Italy in 2008 and 2009.  He got retired in 2007. Tyagi has travelled to three cities Florence, Venice and Milan in Italy. Now the agency is trying to figure out whether these trips were related to Helicopter deal or not.

It is worth pondering that Milan Court of Appeals had sentenced Giuseppe Orsi Finmeccanicato four and a half year imprisonment in respect to false accounting and corruption in 3600 crore deal for 12 VVIP helicopters. And the Former CEO of Agusta Westland, the helicopter manufacturing unit, of Finmeccanica has been sentenced to prison for four years.

On January 12, 2014 India cancelled the contract with Agusta Westland to supply AW 101 VVIP helicopters to India Air Force. It was cancelled after the allegations on company to bribe in order to get the deal. Current UPA government has banned Finmeccanica and its group companies from taking part in any new program initiated by the Ministry of Defense.

CBI has registered a case against former Air Chief SP Tyagi and 12 others in the VVIP Chopper deal suspected for fraud, corruption and criminal conspiracy. But the Former air force chief strongly rejected the charges against him.
