Chhattisgarh: Maoists attacked Congress leader to death in Dantewada


Maoists in Chattisgarh attacked the former sarpanch in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on Tuesday after they believed him to be a police informer, police stated.

As per Dantewada Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap, ex- Sarpanch of his native Cholnar village, Chhannuram Mandavi (55) was killed on Monday with sharp weapons at his house.

The reports revealed that few armed Maoists entered into the victim’s house in Cholnar and cut his throat when he was sleeping, the SP asserted.

When police came to know about the incident, they immediately reached to the area to investigate the matter. Later, his body was sent for the postmortem.

A few Maoists leaflets were found from the area in which Mandavi was working as a police informer, the SP stated. He added that the investigation is in process in the area to nab the attackers.

The sufferer was also a local Congress leader.

As per the police officials, earlier Mandavi was detained and jailed in link with the Maoist attack on the residence of Congress leader Avdhesh Gautam in Nakulnar village of Dantewada in 2010.

In the incident, Gautam’s family member and one of his employees were died. Later, Mandavi was released.
