Chennai cops capture two who threw dog off rooftop

Chennai: Two understudies of a private medicinal school were captured for throwing dog off rooftop at Kundrathur close Chennai. The activity comes after a video of the incident became a web sensation.

Animal lovers identified the students and filed a police complaint.

The understudies, S Gautham, 23, from Tirunelveli, and Asir Paul, 23, from Nagercoil, left Chennai not long after the episode brought about a furor in online networking. A group drove by the Kundrathur police investigator Frank D Ruben lifted them up from the southern locale.

A senior cop said, "They are being conveyed to Chennai by street and will be delivered under the steady gaze of a justice court in Sriperumbudur."

Police said Gautham and Asir stayed in a leased house close to the school. They found the dog loitering on their terrace and decided to throw it off the terrace.

"Gautham made the dog stand on the parapet wall of the terrace and hurled it down while Asir shot a video using his mobile phone. They circulated it in college group. But it later spread to social media," said a police officer.

A few people censured the activity of the understudies and labeled it to creature welfare activists. A NGO association — Humane Society International, India — had offered a prize of Rs 1 lakh to follow the character of the man on the video.

Shravan Krishnan, a creature lobbyist, who made an approach online networking to distinguish and capture the student , and also filed a complaint with city police commissioner, said, " Some of the students threatened me when I tried to expose the name of the men who hurled the dog."

In light of the objection from Antony Rubin, privileged authority of Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), the Kundrathur police have enlisted a case under the IPC Sections 428 (naughtiness by slaughtering or damaging creature), 429 (devilishness by executing or debilitating dairy cattle) and Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
