Chennai: 1 dead, 11 injured as bus rams container near Melmaruvathur

CHENNAI: On Wednesday afternoon one person died and 11 others were wounded when the bus rammed a parked container lorry near Melmaruvathur on the Chennai-Trichy national highway. Police officials recognized the dead traveler as Rashik Basha, 62.

 Police officials have also conveyed that, bus was on its way to Cuddalore from Koyambedu and was near Sirunagalur village in Acharapakkam Taluk approximately noon when the driver mislaid control and rammed the container lorry.

 A police official conveyed that over speeding caused the mishap. Villagers living nearby rescued the passengers from the mangled remains of the bus. The fire and rescue services were summoned to slash open the poorly mangled bus.

The Melmaruvathur police hurried to the spot and helped in rushing the wounded to the Madurantakam Government Hospital. Bus driver Shivamani, 42, who was critically wounded, is being treated at the Chengelpet government hospital.

 Traffic on the arterial highway was disturbed for over two hours as a huge crowd collected at the spot making rescue process for the police tough.

 Locals has also further conveyed police that the bus was over speeding and swerved to the left side of the road and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Melmaruvathur police have filed a case and are investigating.
