Kamala Rokka of the CPN-Maoist Centre secured the polls from Rukum district in western Nepal by beating his closest opponent Hari Shanker Garti of the Nepali Congress.

Overall 1,663 nominees competed for the Parliamentary seats whereas 2,819 were in fight for the Provincial Assemblies seats in the historic polls that many believe will provide the much-required political constancy to the Himalayan nation.

The House of Representatives comprises of 275 members, among which 165 would be chosen directly under the First-Past-the- Post system whereas leftover 110 will be elected via Proportional Representation system.

Polling for 32 districts were conducted on November 26 in the first phase.
