Case lodged against actress Ramya for ‘Pakistan is not hell’ remark


Actress Divya Spandana had recently visited Pakistan just few days back to be a part of SAARC summit for young parliamentarians.

During her meeting, she had made a controversial remark praising the people of Pakistan for their hospitality. Looking into the matter, a sedition case has been filed against her by a lawyer in Karnataka. She went to Pakistan to attend the summit by name “Ramya”.

As a part of the meeting, she spoke of how she felt the people of Pakistan were very welcoming and went out of their way to make her stay comfortable on getting to know she was from India.

On her return from Pakistan to India, she blamed Manohar Parrikar and said that, “Pakistan is a good country, not hell. Parrikar’s comments (that going to Pakistan or hell is the same thing) are not true.”

The case has been lodged against her in Karnataka under section 124-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC. The hearing of the case will be announced on 27 August.

During the summit, Ramya talked about the requirement for both countries to work out solutions needed to solve differences between the two countries and the Saarc region.

From year 2013 to 2014, a former Lok Sabha MP, Ramya represented the constituency of Mandya.
