Car Blast in Baghdad; 20 killed 70 injured


Baghdad: Two separate blasts in Baghdad on Thursday afternoon, 22 people were killed while 70 were injured. According to police, the first blast occurred at Commercial Street and the other at an army checkpoint.

The explosion happened when Iraqi forces engaged in removing IS militants group from Falluja. Police said the explosion took place at Commercial Street in a car parked there. The street in Baghdad al-Jadeeda in which 15 people were killed and 50 injured.

A suicide car bomb also targeted a main army checkpoint in Taji, just north of Baghdad, killing seven soldiers and wounding more than 20 others, he said

Fallujah, which is about 65 kilometers west of Baghdad, is one of the last major IS strongholds in western Iraq. The extremist group still controls territory in the country’s north and west, as well as Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city.
