British Aerospace 146 carrying Brazil’s team crashes in Colombia


A plane carrying 81 people including a top Brazilian football team crashed on Tuesday near Colombia. The plane was going towards city of Medellin in Colombia.

The incident occurred due to the electrical issues. The reports revealed that crashed in a mountainous area outside Colombia city before midnight local time (05:00 GMT).

The British Aerospace 146 short-haul plane was flying from Bolivia and heading towards Colombia. It was carrying 81 members.

Brazilian team was going to Colombia to play the finals of Copa Sudamericana against Medellin team Atletico Nacional. The match was scheduled to held on Wednesday.

The Brazilian team reached to the final round of the match last week after a victory against Argentina's San Lorenzo.

Medellin's Mayor Federico Gutierrez said, "It was a tragedy of huge proportions".

The Jose Maria Cordova de Rionegro airport, which serves Medellin shared on its Twitter account, "Confirmed, the aircraft licence number CP2933 was carrying the team @ChapecoenseReal. Apparently there are survivors."
