Brazil: Nearly 10 died and several others misplaced as a boat hauling 70 people capsized on Wednesday into the Xingu River of North Brazil.
The public security office of the state of Para affirmed, the rescue operators found 10 dead bodies in the river and 15 people were evacuated from the spot. Prior, it was said that around 25 people have been saved.
As per the authorities, the boat was moving towards Xingu River when it submerged on Tuesday. The reason behind the casualty was not known yet.
One of the leading newspaper stated, the boat left Monday night from Santarem and was going to Vitoria do Xingu.
Victim Bruno Costa, a 29 year-old disc jockey said, “A messy scene as the boat broke down and quickly dropped. He stated that a canvas sheltering traveler from a intense downpour made it flee difficult.”
“The tarpaulin thwarted several people from leaving. I tried to evacuate a child of about 2, but neither I nor the child had a life jacket on,” Costa affirmed.
Few days back, a cargo vessel hit the tugboat on the Amazon River. Among 11, the rescue operators recovered only two people during that time.
