Bombay High Court to get woman Chief Justice after two decades


Mumbai: Putting intense corridor gossip to rest, the Law Ministry has recently notified the appointment of Manjula Chellur J as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, with effect from August 24 this year. 

Shri Justice Girish Chandra Gupta, senior-most Judge of the Calcutta High Court, is appointed to perform the duties of the office of Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court with effect from the date Justice Manjula Chellur relinquishes charge of the office of the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court consequent upon her transfer as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

Also, Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri, Judge of Gujarat High Court, has been transferred as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court and directed him to assume charge of his office in the Rajasthan High Court on or before 24thAugust, 2016.
