The superstar of South film industry, Rajinikanth was born on 12 December 1950. His real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad. He began acting in plays while working in the Bangalore Transport Service as a bus conductor. In 1973, he joined the Madras Film Institute to pursue a diploma in acting. During the performance in one of his Kannada plays at the film Institute the actor got noticed by director K Balachander. K Balachander liked Rajnikanth’s performance and before leaving he told him, “Learn Tamil”. And the actor made his film debut in the Tamil language Apoorva Raagangal (1975) helmed by K Balachander.
Rajinikanth tasted his first commercial success with Billa (1980). It was a remake of the Amitabh Bachchan starring Don (1978).
Rajinikanth’s stepped into Bollywood with T Rama Rao’s Andha Kanoon (1983).
In 1988 that Rajinikanth made his first appearance in the English action adventure drama, “Bloodstone”.
Rajinikanth married Latha Rangachari, a student of Ethiraj College for Women, who interviewed him for her college magazine. The marriage took place on 26 February 1981, in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The couple has two daughters named Aishwarya Rajnikanth and Soundarya Rajnikanth. Latha Rangachari is married to actor Dhanush.
Rajinikanth is the highest paid Indian actor and the second highest paid actor in Asia after Jackie Chan.
