Bihar govt to oppose bail for Shahabuddin: Source

Patna: The Nitish Kumar-led government will oppose the bail granted to RJD strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin in Supreme Court, as per media report. "The state government has decided to appeal against the Patna High Court bail to Shahabuddin in the apex court," an official said.

The report quoted sources saying that there was no question of "any compromise" in cases against Shahabuddin. The state government would also make sure there are no lapses in its preparation against the gangster turned politician's cases which are yet to go on trial. Shahabuddin after walking out of prison created controversy by saying, "For me Lalu Prasad is the leader" and Nitish Kumar is the chief minister "circumstantially", said the controversial leader, who has been a four-time MP from Siwan, as he emerged out of the Bhagalpur divisional jail and left in a convoy of three hundred vehicles for Siwan.

There was another embarrasment fot the state as Mohammad Kaif, the absconding sharpshooter wanted in the murder of Bihar senior scribe Rajdev Ranjan, was spotted with Shahabuddin. Shahabuddin, who is a member of RJD National Committee – the top decision making body of the party- and is known to be close to the RJD chief, said categorically that he never enjoyed good relations with Kumar.

Asha Ranjan, wife of murdered journalist Rajdev Ranjan, has urged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to wake up and take action against those involved in the brutal killing of her husband, indicating towards just-released gangster-turned politician Shahabuddin.

Various pending cases against Shahabuddin were reopened and he was sent to jail after Kumar had assumed power in 2005. Shahabuddin had got final reprieve last week when Patna High Court granted him bail in a case of murder of a witness in the 2004 killing of two brothers in Siwan. He had got bail in nearly 12 other cases earlier.

He had kidnapped brothers Girish Raj and Satish Raj in 2004 and giving them 'an acid bath' before murdering them. As per the report, he has 40 cases against him, including those of murder, extortion and kidnapping

Shahabuddin was accorded a grand reception by his supporters Families who urged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to wake up and take action against those involved in the brutal killing of her husband, indicating towards just-released gangster-turned politician Shahabuddin.
