PATNA: Former MLA from Bihar Lalan Ram was arrested on Wednesday after a video showing him drinking was circulated on social media. Lalan Ram arrested from his residence in Patna. After that Janata Dal-United (JD-U) on Thursday suspended from its membership former legislator.
In the video, Lalan Ram is seen consuming beer and calling liquor ban useless. The video had gone viral on social media. Ram was an MLA from Aurangabad’s Kutumba between 2010 and 2015. The arrest comes at a time when the Bihar government has decided to make the prohibition more stringent by making even possession of liquor a non-bailable offence.
"Taking serious note of the violation of a total liquor ban by him, the JD-U has suspended him on the charge of giving a bad name to the party," JD(U) spokesman Sanjay Singh told to a news agency. According to police officials, a case was lodged against Lalan Ram, former legislator from Kutumba constituency in Aurangabad district of Bihar, by the excise department for violation of liquor ban.
