BENGALURU: Late on Saturday night four youths were detained for supposedly attacking traffic policemen during a drink-and-drive check in southeast Bengaluru. SI Rajanna and constable Nanjegowda with HSR Layout station undergo leg injuries and were hospitalized. The detained youths — Rakesh, Arun, Harish and Santhosh, aged between 28 and 32 and all working with a private corporation were originate drunk.
At 11.45pm, SI Rajanna and others were inspecting for drunken driving when constable Nanjegowda stopped the youths' car near Sarjapur junction. The four started up a fight with the policemen and battered Nanjegowda who fell down. Rajanna rushed to Nanjegowda's help and demanded that the four take the alcometer test for drunken driving. Fearing they would be trapped, the others assault him too. Passersby arbitrate and save the policemen.
Rajanna then called up HSR Layout police who took the four youths arrested. Bengaluru traffic police booked 1,081 cases of drunken driving on Satruday night alone. "We will write to the RTO to suspend their DLs," they tweeted afterward. North traffic police has also further conveyed that, they have filed 20 FIRs in association with motorists obstructing their enforcement drives.
