Backed by N Srinivasan, Tamil Nadu gets its own Premier League


Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) president and previous BCCI head N. Srinivasan on Thursday reported the dispatch of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) in Chennai.

"The principle thought behind TNPL is to convey cricket to the areas of Tamil Nadu and investigate nearby ability," said N.Srinivasan, TNCA president and overseeing executive of India Cements Ltd.

The eight establishments (speaking to areas) for the TNPL that will start in the fourth week of August are Karaikudi, Dindigul, Kanchipuram, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruvallur, South Chennai, Thoothukudi.

The TNPL will see 27 matches being played crosswise over three focuses including Chennai, Natham and Tirunelveli. "One year from now, we plan to take the competition to more country focuses," P.S. Raman, executive of the TNPL told Mint via telephone.

The three-week long competition will see eight groups being part into two zones of four each, and will play each other twice, with the main two from every gathering fitting the bill for the semi-last.

Thoothukudi Sports and Entertainment Pvt Ltd was the most noteworthy bidder at Rs5.21crore took after by Metronation Chennai Television Pvt. Ltd which purchased the Chennai group (Rs5.13 crore). Coimbatore group was purchased by Lyca Productions Pvt. Ltd for Rs5.01crore.

Kothari (Madras) Ltd will claim the Madurai group at Rs4.001 crore, Ruby Builders and Promoters (Rs3.69 crore) will be the Kancheepuram group and VB Cricket Academy (Rs3.48 crore) has purchased the Thiruvallur group.

While Take Solutions Ltd (Rs3.42 crore) will back the Dindugal group, Chettinad Apparels Pvt. Ltd (Rs3.3crore) sacked the establishment for Karaikudi group.

The champs of the TNPL will have prize cash of Rs1 crore and the runners-up will get Rs60 lakh. The semi-last groups will each get prize cash of Rs40 lakh each and the remaining groups will get Rs25 lakh.
