In context of Mandera attack, Somalia’s Islamist al-Shabaab militants proclaimed on Thursday that the attack on residential compound in the restive northeastern Kenyan town of Mandera was held by them.
Atleast six persons were dead during the attack. The information was shared by the militants on their Telegram account.
In the Kenyan region, the attack was held by ethnic Somali Muslims and it was “Planned… and killed Christians”.
A residential building which mainly housed non-locals was targeted during the attack. “We have suffered yet another attack in Mandera and sadly we have lost six people,” Governor Ali Roba said.
Atleast 33 people inside the compound was killed, Police chief Joseph Boinnet said.
In the attacks, Al-Shabaab militants targeted Christians in Kenya. In November 2014 gunmen flagged down a commuter bus, separated passengers by religion and executed 28 non-Muslims. Around 148 people at Garissa University in northeastern Kenya in 2015, the gunmen lined up non-Muslim students for execution.
