Assembly Elections 2017: Voting underway in north and central Gujarat


AHMEDABAD: Voting for 93 seats in the second and final phase of assembly elections in Gujarat is underway on Thursday when about 2.22 crore people will cast ballot. The calculation of polls for all 182 seats will be done on Monday.

The polling for phase two elections are being conducted for 61 seats in central Gujarat as well as 32 constituencies in north Gujarat.

In 2012 polls, the votes were calculated 72.64% in central and north Gujarat.  Talking about the votes of first phase, 68 per cent voter turnout has been noted less than 2016’s 71.3 per cent for the entire of Gujarat.

Famous leaders involving state deputy CM Nitin Patel, Alpesh Thakor (Radhanpur) and Jignesh Mevani (Vadgam) are in the battle for second phase of polling.

BJP clinched 52 seats while Congress won 39 seats in year 2012.

As per the reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will ballot at a polling booth in the Nishan High School in Sabarmati today.
