New Delhi : Expenditure secretary Ashok Lavasa is the new finance secretary, an official announcement said here today. The appointments committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment. Mr. Lavasa, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1980 batch (Haryana cadre), will succeed Mr. Ratan P. Watal, lAS (AP:1978), who superannuated on April 30, after a two-month extension in service. Mr. Watal has since been appointed as Principal Adviser (Social Sector), NITI Aayog.
Mr. Lavasa, who was appointed Expenditure Secretary on April 26, was earlier working as the Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. He has also served as Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation.
