Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Project Scarlett is due to release Holiday 2020, and thoughts have already started that what Xbox’s future games library will look like.
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has confirmed that single-player focused games will continue to launch on the Xbox platform in the years to come.
The statement has come via Twitter where, when Spencer was asked whether more single-player games are in the works, he responded that “With the additions to XGS [Xbox Game Studios] we have a lot of teams that have built strong SP focused games and we want that to continue.”
As the popularity of online multiplayer games soars, this will be welcome news to those who prefer the option of a more solitary gaming experience on their console.
Upcoming Xbox exclusive titles like Gears 5 will include a single-player campaign along with multiplayer modes. Other big upcoming Xbox exclusive in the pipeline is Halo Infinite, but it is not known what its campaign will be like, and how focused it'll be on the singe-player side of things. Lots of multiplayer games have come under fire in recent years thanks to the use of microtransactions and loot boxes, and the hunger for single-player titles appears to be increasing even more.
