Police’s eyes over the assailant involved in France terror attack, increased security

International| Hundreds of security personnel were deployed on Wednesday in search of a gunman who killed three people and injured nearly 12 people in a Christmas market in the city of Strasbourg. After this attack, the French government has increased security alert levels and implemented border control.

Home Minister Christophe Castner said that 350 people and helicopters have been deployed to capture the terrorists who spread terror in the city. The assailant started firing at one of the busiest streets in the city at 8 pm local time, so the people who were frightened, ran away.

Castner said that the assailant killed three people and injured 12 people. Police said that the troops were on patrol in the area under the anti-terror campaign, they fired counter after the incident in which the suspected assailant was injured, but they could not stop him from escaping. During this, a policeman was minorly injured.

A statement issued by the local security service said that the gunman has been identified. His name was in the list of suspected extremists. France's security forces are already on high alert due to the many terrorist attacks since 2015.

An eyewitness told that after I heard the bullets noise. People were running around. He said that shortly after that he saw three injured lying on the ground near the big Christmas tree.

Shortly after the firing incident, police vehicles and ambulance lines were found in the market area. President Emmanuel Macron showed solidarity with the whole country on Twitter. He also held a meeting with cabinet colleagues in Paris.

Security sources said the attacker is likely to be a 29-year-old young man named Cherif, who was to be arrested on Tuesday morning. His name came in the matter of murder attempt and investigation. Several areas near the Christmas market were sealed on Tuesday and people were asked to stay within the houses.
