Several people were killed and more than 30 others wounded after a massive car bomb explosion ripped through a busy neighborhood at the western side of Afghanistan's capital of Kabul on Wednesday, a witness said.
Witness Shir Mohammad told Xinhua, "We heard a huge blast outside a district police station near Shahid Mazari Square. The whole place has now been sealed off. "
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, in the west of the city during the morning rush hour, which sent a cloud of grey smoke billowing into the sky. The bomb went off when a vehicle was stopped at a checkpoint outside the station, said interior ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi. Rescue teams, police and security forces rushed to the site and shifted the wounded to the hospitals. Public health officials confirmed that 34 wounded were admitted to multiple hospitals after the blast.
