Mallya Extradition: Rakesh Asthana accused in helping Mallya to flee away, CBI after him

International| The British court has allowed Rakesh Asthana, Special Director, CBI, who is involved in the dispute, allowing Vijay Mallya's extradition. The court said on Monday that Mallya's defendant had accused Asthana of working corruptly, while it was not so.

Asthana, the Gujarat cadre of 1984 batch, led the Special Investigation Team of CBI after fleeing Mallya from India in 2016 and seriously led the extradition case from Britain.

After registering a case against Asthana on behalf of the CBI regarding alleged bribe in a case related to Hyderabad businessman Satish Sana, the government sent him and CBI director Alok Verma on leave. In this case, he is a challenger in the Delhi High Court. Both the officials had accused each other of corruption and saving the lives of Sana.

In September, the Westminster Magistrate's court in London secured the decision on the extradition of Mallya and declared it on Monday. Although, Mallya's defendant had presented Professor Lawrence Sage to his witness, who had made grave accusations about the integrity of Asthana.

According to the news agency language, on Monday, Westminster Magistrate's court judge Emma Arbuthnot said in his order that the defendant criticized Asthana and tried to convince the court that Prospector (Asthana) is inspired by corruption and politics. The judge said that he did not find any proof that Prosecutor was inspired by corruption or politics.
