Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has invited former Indian cricketer and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu to inaugurate the Kartarpur Corridor. This is the first official invitation by Imran Khan for the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor. The serial number is also 0001 on this invitation letter. India and Pakistan will separately inaugurate the Kartarpur corridor on 9 November.
Sidhu has sought permission from the Ministry of External Affairs to attend the opening ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor in Pakistan. Sidhu has also written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in this regard. The Chief Minister sent the letter to the Chief Secretary for necessary action. In a letter to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Sidhu said that he has been invited by the Government of Pakistan for the inauguration ceremony of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor on 9 November. As a Sikh, this would be a great opportunity to pay homage to his great Guru Baba Nanak on this historic occasion and connect with his roots. Therefore, allow me to visit Pakistan on this auspicious occasion.
Imran Khan on Sunday shared some stunning pictures of the Kartarpur campus and the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib and said that this centre of faith is ready to welcome Sikh devotees on the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. In another tweet, he congratulated his government for completing the construction work on time.
Significantly, the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev, spent the last 18 years of his life at the Durbar Sahib Gurdwara situated on the banks of the Ravi river in Kartarpur, Pakistan. This corridor connects the Dera Baba Nanak Gurdwara located in Gurdaspur, Punjab to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.
