Muttiah Muralitharan, who battered the batsmen with his off-spin during his time on the cricket field in Colombo, could be made the governor of the Northern Province in Sri Lanka. There are reports that the newly elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who belongs to the Tamil community, may make Muralitharan the governor of the northern province. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was the defense minister between 2005 and 2015, ended the Tamil outfit LTTE. Tamil minorities did not support Rajapaksa in the elections due to problems faced by ordinary Tamils in the fight with LTTE. Rajapaksa was accused of war crimes.
Murali, who took 800 wickets in Tests, is an Indian Tamil who lives in Kandy, Sri Lanka. He openly supported Gotabaya. Because of this Tamil is not being happy with Muralitharan.
According to reports, Murali could be given the responsibility of the governor of the northern province of Tamil-dominated Sri Lanka. This has not been officially confirmed yet.
