Today is Rajiv Gandhi’s 75th Birth Anniversary. Born on 20 August, 1944, he was the last member of the Nehru-Gandhi family to hold the post of prime minister of the country. He served as the seventh prime minister of India from year 1984 to 1989. On his birth key political leaders like prime minister Narendra Modi and Defence minister Rajnath Singh also took to Twitter to offer tributes to the late leader.
Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, "Tributes to our former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also offered his tribute to the late Prime Minister.
"I offer my tributes to former Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his 75th birth anniversary today", Rajnath Singh wrote on Twitter.
Earlier today, key Congress leaders including party's Interim President Sonia Gandhi, senior leader Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, former President Pranab Mukherjee, former prime minister Manmohan Singh among others visited Rajiv Gandhi's memorial ''Veer Bhoomi'' in New Delhi.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has posted an emotional tribute to her father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, on the occasion of his 75th birth anniversary.
"From my father, I learned how to listen to people's stories and find a place in my heart for them no matter how contrary to mine they might be. From him, I learned how to keep smiling and keep walking no matter how difficult the path might be," Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's post read.
Rahul Gandhi, also posted today, describing his father as both a "patriot" and "a loving father who taught me never to hate".
