National| After the Pulwama attack, India announced to hold the water of three rivers flowing to Pakistan, but this will not affect Pakistan in anyways. This has been said by Khawaja Shamail, secretary of the Pakistan Water Resources Ministry.

In an interview with Pakistani newspaper Dawn, Khawaja Shamail said that if India stops the waters of the Eastern Rivers, then it will not affect Pakistan, because these rivers come under the authority of India under the Indus Agreement.

He also said that if India diverts the water of three rivers and uses it for its people, Pakistan has no objection on this move. India has the right on the water of rivers: Ravi, Sutlej and Beas, under the Indus Water Treaty.

Significantly, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had said in a program that the waters of Ravi, Beas and Sutlej coming under the Indus Water Accord will be diverted and brought to Yamuna, which was still flowing to Pakistan. Diverting water will provide water for irrigation in many states including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana and the farmers will be able to grow a variety of crops. Work on these three projects has already started.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari further said that the plan to divert water of the three rivers is long-term. None of which will affect Indus Water Treaty. This plan will be completed in the next 6 years. The construction work on the rivers has started.

It is known that Nitin Gadkari has already talked about diverted water from India's part going to Pakistan. However, his statement has come at a time when there is a tension between India and Pakistan over the Pulwama.
