Supreme Court to hear final arguments on pleas of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi in the Income-tax case on Tuesday. Rahul and Sonia Gandhi filed this petition in the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court's decision.
Rahul and Sonia have challenged the order of the Delhi High Court in which they were refused relief in the matter of reopening their tax assessment for 2011-12. This appeal was filed by Rahul, Sonia, and senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes. They challenged the order of the High Court on September 10, 2018. Income tax cases against Congress leaders are linked to the National Herald case, in which they are facing criminal cases.
Earlier on April 5, 2019, the Supreme Court gave great relief to the National Herald publisher Associated Journals Limited (AJL) case. At the moment, AJL will not have to vacate the Herald House. The Supreme Court on Friday banned the order to free Delhi Herald's ITO and issued a notice to the Central Government on the petition of Associated Journals Limited.
In fact, Associated Journals Limited AJL), a publisher of the National Herald newspaper, challenged the order of the Delhi High Court to vacate Herald House in the Supreme Court. The Delhi High Court, on February 28, found guilty of breaking the terms of the lease, was ordered to vacate the Herald House located in Delhi's ITO.
Earlier, AJL had challenged the Center's decision to vacate Herald House in the Delhi High Court. But the Bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice VK Rao, while rejecting the petition of AJL, directed him to evacuate the building located on the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg of ITO.
