He had fought the 1971 war against Pakistan with bravery and courage. Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri died in a private hospital in Mohali. He was 78 years old. In 1971, during the war against Pakistan, Brigadier Chandpuri was the Major in the Indian Army.During the Indo-Pak war in 1971, Major Chandpuri led a group of just 100 soldiers in the famous Battle of Longewala Border Post of Rajasthan, who had fought and defeated the attack of Pakistani tanks.At the time of this fight he was only 22 years old and he led the 23rd battalion of the Punjab Regiment. He was conferred with Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) for bravery against the tanks and forcing the enemy to retreat. Maha Vir Chakra is the second highest civilian award given for bravey.
