Filmmaker Karan Johar has finally broken his silence over the controversial episode of Cricketers, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul on Koffee with Karan season 6. The duo had appeared on the show in the first week of January and were highly criticized for their comments on the show.
After the telecast of the episode on air, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provisionally suspended the players. The two are now awaiting an inquiry in the matter.
The episode received flak from viewers for the remarks made by the cricketers on the show. The comments made by them included sexism, misogyny & racism.
After suspension, the duo were called back from India’s ODI series with Australia.
Show host and Bollywood producer-director, Karan Johar who had been silent on the issue so far has finally spoken up and said that he feels responsible. He even apologized as it was his platform where it happened.
“I feel very responsible because it was my show and my platform. I invited them as guests and so the ramifications and repercussions of the show are my responsibility. I have had so many sleepless nights, just wondering about how I can undo this damage. Who is going to listen to me? It has now gone into a zone that is beyond my control,” he said in an recent interview.
Following the controversy, the episode featuring the two cricketers was taken down by streaming platform Hotstar.
