MTNL, which is struggling with cash crisis, has sought the claims of Rs 500 crore from the Department of Telecommunications. According to the sources, the company has demanded claims in many cases including compensation for submission of communication services and compensation related to employees' payment.
According to the sources of the telecom department, the claims made by the company are for the last several years and the demand made by the company is being investigated.
MTNL has raised claims of matters since 2000-01, according to the information given by the officer who is handling this matter. By combining all these claims, the total amount reaches 500 crores. However, this amount is also very important for the company. The company currently works on the salary tab of Rs 180 crore on a monthly basis.
Apart from this, the company has not paid the wages from January. A top MTNL officer said that the claim has been sought from the department, but it would be difficult to get between Rs 300 and 500 crores. In the current financial year, till September, 2018, the company's revenue was Rs 1,229 crore. At the same time, the company has a loss of Rs 1,802 crore.
