Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed Broadcasters and Distribution Platforms to implement the new rates in all respect from 1st Feb.
On Tuesday, a two-hour meeting of the TRAI Chairman, RS Sharma was held in which he directed this to all. Sharma had called the owners and the CEO’s of the companies to check the progress so far. According to the sources, Sharma is happy with the progress so far but has directed everyone to strictly follow the deadlines in every situation. An official said, “The Chairman clearly stated that the companies take the Regulator’s instructions seriously.”
Sharma has asked everyone to speed up the implementation of the new Tariff order. TRAI Chairman said that the deadline of the new rates will not be increased. In this system, customers will pay for only those channels which they want to see. This system will give the customers the benefit of enjoying lower Tariffs.
After Feb 1st, Subscribers will pay only for those channels which they have chosen to watch rather than being bound by the packs decided by the DTH companies or Cable operators. With this, the subscribers can avoid paying for unwanted channels.
