The income tax department is 'behind the' 80,000 cases not filing returns after the demonetization. However, the notice has been sent from the Income Tax Department to these people, but they have not done so. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Sushil Chandra told about it today.

After inaugurating the Income Tax Department's stall at the Trade Fair in Pragati Maidan, Chandra said that the department has identified 8 million people are those who have filed their returns during the last three years, but some have not filed their return this time yet. Chandra said that after the ban on November 1, 2016, in the country has really helped in increasing the tax base. Apart from this, the country's net revenue increased direct tax.

He said, "Direct tax contributed 52 per cent last year and 48 per cent of indirect taxation. It has happened many years later, whereas the direct taxes contribution has been more than indirect taxes. "

Chandra said that, I will say that money has come into bank accounts afterdemonetisation. In such a situation, it was easy for us to find out how many people deposited cash while not depositing returns on time.

After the announcement of the demonetization by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CBDT chief said about the enforcement action taken by the department that he sent emails and SMS to a large number of people. These people filed returns after that.

Chandra said that notices were sent to three lakh people who did not file returns after the notice. These were statutory notice. After that 2.25 lakh people submitted the returns. Returns have not been submitted in 80,000 cases. The department is pursuing such cases.
