In the last 11 years, more than 50,000 fraud cases have been registered in the banks, of which total amount of Rs 2.05 lakh crore was racked up. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, the maximum cases of fraud have been registered in ICICI Bank, State Bank of India (SBI) and HDFC Bank.
Total 53,334 cases filed
According to the statistics, 53,334 cases of fraud worth Rs 2.05 lakh crore have been registered in the last 11 years (between 2008-2009 and 2018-19). The highest 6,811 cases have been registered in ICICI Bank, of which Rs 5,033.81 crore has been fraudulent. In response to the information sought under Right to Information (RTI), the central bank has given these figures.
SBI loses 23,734.74 crores
The RBI said during this period, there are 6,793 cases of fraud cases of amount Rs 23,734.74 crore in SBI. After this, the highest fraud cases have been filed in HDFC Bank. A total of 2,497 fraud cases of Rs 1,200.79 crore have come out in HDFC Bank.
In the case of Bank of Baroda, fraud cases were 2,160 in the count, but the total amount of Rs 12,962.96 crore was misappropriated. Similarly, 2,747 fraud cases of 28,700.74 crore rupees and 1,944 frauds worth Rs 5,301.69 crore have been found in Axis Bank in Punjab National Bank.
BOI of Rs. 12,358.2 crores
According to statistics, 1,772 cases of fraud in Bank of India (Rs 12,358.2 crore), 1,783 cases (Rs 5830.85 crore) in Syndicate Bank and 1,613 fraud cases of Rs 9041.98 crore in Central Bank of India have surfaced. Similarly, IDBI Bank Limited has 1,264 cases of Rs 5978.96 crore, Standard Chartered Bank has 1,263 cases of Rs 1221.41 crore, Canara Bank has 1,254 cases of fraud of Rs 5553.38 crore, Union Bank of India has 1,244 cases of Rs 11,830.74 crore and Kotak Mahindra Bank has informed about 1,213 cases of fraud worth Rs 430.46 crore.
Rs 12,644.7 crore jolt to IOB
During the last 11 years, 11,55 cases of fraud involving Rs 12,644.7 crore in Indian Overseas Bank, while 1,040 cases of fraud worth Rs 5,598.23 crore have been registered in Oriental Bank of Commerce. During this period, fraud cases have been registered in some foreign banks operating in India.
No Declining Fraud Matters
The news agency had reported 6,801 fraud cases of Rs 71,542.93 crore in scheduled commercial banks and selected financial institutions, citing RBI data on June 3. Earlier, in 2008-09, a total of 4,372 cases of Rs 1,860.09 crore were reported. After this, in 2009-10, 4,669 cases of Rs 1,998.94 crore were registered. In 2010-11, 4,534 cases and 4,093 cases were registered in 2011-12, of which Rs 3,815.76 crore and Rs 4,501.15 crore were fraudulent respectively.
Similarly, 4,235 cases of Rs 8,590.86 crore in FY 2012-13, 4,306 cases of Rs 10,170.81 crore in 2013-14 and 4,639 fraud cases of Rs 19,455.07 crore were filed in 2014-15. In the financial year 2015-16 and 2016-17, there were 4,693 and 5,076 cases of Rs 18,698.82 crore and Rs 23,933.85 crore respectively. At the same time, cases of 5,916 frauds of Rs 41,167.03 crore have surfaced in 2017-18.
