Virginity tests are still prevalent in some parts of India and are somehow integral part of some communities in India, such as the Kanjarbhat community in Maharashtra.

Many women in Kanjarbhatt community - have to undergo through virginity test on their wedding night. Not only her family members but the whole society want to know Whether the bride is virgin or not.

This custom has been going here for many years. A white sheet is placed on the bed at the wedding night to check the virginity of girl.

Couple are sent inside the room to consummate their marriage and the whole family wait outside of the room. If the bride bleeds during intercourse, she is seen as a virgin, and if she doesn’t, consequences are harsh. If the girl is not virgin than she is treated worse than animals.
