Varanasi : BJP chief Amit Shah seems to be touching all bases to ensure his party comes up trumps in the 2017 UP election. Even as BJP president Amit Shah attacked the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and the Congress on Tuesday, he was derided by the Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh for dining with OBCs and Dalits at a village in Varanasi. They claimed it was a mere theatrics by the BJP before the 2017 elections.
On Tuesday, Shah, who was on his way to Allahabad to address a farmers' rally, took a brief halt at Jogiyapur village and had lunch with the family of Girjaprasad Bind and Iqbal Bind, who belong to the Dalit community, Sanjay Bharadwaj, BJP media-in-charge told reporters.
The BJP chief sat on the ground with the family members and shared the meal with them, he said. Shah was given a warm welcome on his arrival in the city by party workers.UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav hit out at the BJP leader, stating that the latter broke bread with the Dalit family purely with the UP Assembly polls in mind. "These are just gimmicks. The BJP has never been a patron of the Dalits," he said.
