AAP MLA Sharad Chauhan arrested for party worker’s suicide


New Delhi: In connection to the alleged suicide of an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) woman activist Soni, Delhi police crime branch on Saturday arrested AAP MLA from Narela Sharad Chauhan. According to media reports, Chauhan was arrested with seven others including previous investigating officer probing the suicide, taking the total number of arrested party leaders to 12.

She had committed suicide on July 19, alleging that she was urged by fellow party worker Ramesh Bhardwaj to "make compromises with her body" to "rise in the party".

She had also alleged that Bhardwaj was being protected by a local MLA. "Ramesh Bharadwaj forced me to take this extreme step. I do not wish to live any further," she had said in a video statement. She had also filed a complaint against Bhardwaj.

After the arrest, the party has once again accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of targeting its leaders. "If PM acts with such anger/vengeance then is country safe!," tweeted AAP leader Ashutosh.
