7 Indian Badminton players to play in Olympic 2016


After World Badminton’s latest ranking, dream of Indian’s seven Rio Olympic players come true. Players that qualified are Saina Nehwal, Jwala Gutta, Ashwini Ponnappa, K Shrikant, PV Sindhu, B Sumeeth Reddy and Manu Atri.

According to the latest BWF ranking release on Thursday,London Olyampics bronze medalist Saina and Sindhu with 8th and 10th place are included in the top 10 players in current world ranking. Carolina Marin of Spain is in top in section.K. Srikant is ranked at no.11 in Men’s Single ranking.

Women’s doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Aswini  Ponnappa are at No. 14 in the latest ranking. Whereas, Sumeet Reddy and Manu Atri are ranked 20 in Men’s Double ranking.

Sports Authority of India (SAI), wrote on his official Twitter handle, "Congratulations for Rio qualification  to Kidambi, Jwala Gutta, Saina Nehwal, Ashwini Ponnappa, Manu Atri, Sumeet Reddy and PV Sindhu. Good luck."

Jwala wrote on Facebook: "We have made our place; the next step is to get a medal."

Four years ago, five Indian shuttler qualified for the London Olympics. This year, the London Olympics bronze medalist Saina will represent India at her third Olympics, the pair of Jwala and Ashwini Ponnappa will take part Olympics for the second time.

In addition, PV Sindhu and Srikant has made their place for the first time in Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles. Manu Atri and B Sumeet Reddy will also represent the country in Olympics for the first time.

Olympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in August.
