A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Papua New Guinea’s island 135 km (85 miles) east of Rabaul town on Friday. The earthquake occurred at local time (1739 GMT) on Thursday. There were no reports of tsunami caution.
As per Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the depth of earthquake was under the island at 10 km.
On Feb 26, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit Papua New Guinea island taking the lives of over 100 people.
People witnessed tremor at Port Moresby close to the centre of Papua New Guinea’s main island at 3.45 a.m. local time (1545 GMT) on Feb 26.
No casualty has been reported yet.
Port Moresby-based National Disaster Management Office stated, “We’ve been in contact with the regional office and they are going out to check it.”
