54-year-old woman fights off chain-snatchers


A 54-year-old lady battled off two men who purportedly attempted to grab her chain in Shahdara in north east Delhi on Thurday afternoon, police said. The lady, Santosh Kumari, works in MTNL and is asthmatic and has had a spine surgery, they included.

While she was strolling back towards her home in Jhilmil Colony in the wake of purchasing groceries, two bike borne men attempted to grab her chain, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad.

In any case, the two denounced did not realize that the lady would not be a simple prey for them.

She clutched her chain with one hand and with the other hand, clutched the collar of one of the denounced. She pushed their motorcycle with her foot and they tumbled off the vehicle, said the officer.

Finding that they had been cornered, they fled from the spot leaving their bike.

It was discovered that the bike had been stolen before in the day from Jagatpuri, she said.

The lady was given an acclamation letter by the DCP and a reward of Rs. 1,000.

A case has been enrolled and police have started a manhunt for the charged. Till now, no CCTV film has been found. The lady is helping the police in recognizing her attackers.

DCP Prasad posted on Twitter about the valiance of the lady.  “DP salutes brave Santosh 54-yr who foiled robery atmpt. Robers fled leavng stolen bike @LtGovDelhi @DelhiPolice @sbksinghips @Ravindra_IPS,” the officer tweeted.
