Five cities across the country with diverse geographical and climatic conditions will be the first to start using plastic bank notes of Rs. 10 denomination, with the Centre approving a field trial.
The plastic bank notes are thought to be cleaner than paper cash, will last more and are hard to fake.
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry has solicited the Reserve Bank from India to proceed with the acquisition of the essential plastic substrate material and endorsed the printing of Rs. 10 notes, Minister of State for Finance Arjun Ram Meghwal told Parliament on Friday.
