MANILA: An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 hit a central Philippine island on Monday. As per the reports, no damage or casualties has been reported.
The US Geological Survey stated, the low intensity earthquake struck Leyte island near Ormoc. A city comprises of nearly 200,000 people at 9:41am (local time). It hit the area at the depth of about 12.7 kilometres.
On Thursday, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit the region that takes the lives of two people and injuring 72 others.
Leyte comprises of about 1.75 million people. Currently, the natives of central Philippines are still without electricity because of destruction in a Leyte power plant.
The Philippines is situated on the Pacific Ocean region which is called as Ring of Fire. Till now several earthquakes and volcanic eruptions has hit the area.
