5.4 magnitude earthquake hits Western Japan


Tokyo: On Saturday an earthquake with an initial magnitude of 5.4 shake western Japan but there was no instant report of harm and a tsunami warning was not issued.

The Japan news agency has also further informed that, the epicentre of the earthquake, which occurred at 11:48 a.m. (0248 GMT), was in Wakayama prefecture, western Japan.

Earthquakes are ordinary in Japan, one of the world’s most seismically active areas. Japan accounts for about 20% of the world’s earthquakes of magnitude six or greater.
