Jaipur The central intelligence unit (CIU) team of Jaipur police commissionerate arrested three peddlers including a wholesaler drug supplier active in Jaipur in a crackdown against the illegal trafficking of narcotics. The team seized 2.6 kg of charas from their possession.
Police claimed that the main accused has smuggled nearly 25 kg of charas within Jaipur worth nearly Rs 1 crore in the past six months.
Sanjay Agarwal, commissioner of police, had told police officers to ensure a complete crackdown on the drug mafia supplying drugs and taking the youths in their net.Thus senior police officers including Prafful Kumar, additional commissioner of police- Jaipur I, introduced operation ICE to activate policemen and their informers for crackdown.
"Our CIU team activated their informers at public places and a few dingy lanes of Jaipur to gather more information about the drug mafia that was active in the city. On Sunday evening the team got a tip off that one Ravi Singh, a native of Motihari(Bihar), is in town with a consignment from Himachal Pradesh. He was first apprehended and questioned. On his information two persons who purchased charas from him, identified as Nikhil Khatri and Chetan Gupta, were also arrested. We have seized nearly 2.6 kg of charas from their possession which is worth Rs 12 lakh in the Indian market," said Kumar while addressing a press conference at the commissionerate on Monday. "Ravi is a wholesaler who would visit Jaipur 2-3 times in a month with a consignment of 1.5 kgs of charas per trip. He has been active for the past six months," Kumar added.
