3 internships to be compulsory for engineering students, says Prakash Javadekar


New Delhi: In the move at enhancing their employability outlook, engineering candidate’s crossways the nation will have to take at least three mandatory internships throughout their course. It will be the liability of colleges to guarantee internship for students. As per the data of 2015-16, 56% candidates graduating from engineering colleges stayed jobless.

Teachers too will have to undergo mandatory refresher course yearly, failing which the endorsement to their institute be refused. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday conveyed the Lok Sabha that, each and every candidate in technical institute should take three internships spanning four to eight weeks prior to completion of under-graduation course.

This liability will be on the institute to help candidates find an appropriate industry for the internship. Javadekar further asserted that the number could have been superior had the students not selected for higher studies.

Minister further added in the Lok Sabha that, more than half of the engineers graduating from technical institute’s crossways the country remain jobless. The teachers of engineering institutes will have to undergo online courses offered on administration’s SWAYAM portal. Teacher in each of the technical discipline shall mandatorily take an annual refresher course through SWAYAM portal.
