29 dead, 29 wounded in South Korea building fire


Seoul: Nearly 29 people died as fire breaks out in eight-floor building in the central city of Jecheon in Seoul on Thursday. The investigation into the matter is in process by officials.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in was making plans to reach to the spot and look at the situation.  The national fire agency and forensic service carried out a joint operation into the matter.

Fire department authorities affirmed, the fire started at the building’s parking lot on Thursday

The photographs that went viral on social media showed fire officials putting efforts to stop the fire with the help of trucks and helicopters.

Around 29 people wounded in the deadliest fire on Thursday. As per the reports, several women had been making use of public bath on the second and third floors to flee from the spot, fire department officials affirmed.

Prior, the fire took place at a refrigerated warehouse in Icheon in year 2008 when about 40 people lost their lives.

Planners for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics asserted that the Olympic torch relay had been slated to cross through Jecheon today but now the way has been changed due to the incident.
