SAO PAULO: Nearly 25 convict died on Sunday in violence that took place between two parties in a prison in far northern Brazil.
Seven of the dead were decapitated and six smoldered to death in battling at a jail inBoa Vista, the capital of Roraimastate, the news site G1 reported, refering to nearby police.
The slaughter started when detainees of one wing of the Agricola de Monte Cristo jail broke into another wing.
Detainees were equipped with blades and wooden clubs, a prisoner's significant other who was in the jail when the mob broke out told G1.
Roraima state Secretary of Justice Uziel Castro said that the battle ejected amid going by hours, and exactly 100 relatives of prisoners were quickly held prisoner.
The agitators requested that a judge come to hear their requests. Rather Special Operations Police raged the jail, discharged the prisoners and recovered control of the site by dusk.
"Every one of the prisoners were discharged," Castro said, including that a large portion of them were ladies.
The jail, somewhere in the range of 3,400 kilometers northwest of Rio de Janeiro, is in an express that fringes Venezuela.
Police and state authorities did not promptly react to telephone calls from AFP.
