25.2% Voters’ turnout in Tamil Nadu till 11 AM, polling in progress in Puducherry


Today’s polling in Tamil Nadu and Kerala will decide the fate of chief minister Jayalalitha and Oommen Chandy with rivals M Karunanidhi and VS Achuthanandan. Plus polling is being held in the Union Territory Pondicherry also. 25.2% voters’ turnout in Tamil Nadu till 11 AM. Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister also came to cast her vote. At the same time, Kerala recorded a voters’ turnout of 13.55% till 9:30 AM.

The polling is underway in Puducherry with 50.43% voters turnout recorded till 1 PM

The polling is done in three assemblies simultaneously. Voting results will be out on 19 May; however West Bengal and Assam results will be announced on the same date where polling process has been done.   

Through these elections, BJP is trying to cast its roots in the Southern coastal areas. AIADMK’s Supremo Jayalalitha is competing directly with 91-year-old Karunanidhi in Tamil Nadu. However actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth from DMDK-PWF-TMC alliance and PMK’s Anbumani Ramadoss are on the candidateship of Chief Minister of the Sate. A total of 3740 candidates are fraying their luck on the 233 seats.

State’s five crore seventy-five thousand voters will decide the future of the States. While voting began in Tamil Nadu, Rajnikant came to cast his vote at Chennai’s Stella Maris College. Also the country’s PM tweeted urging all voters in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry to vote in record numbers today & be a part of this festival of democracy.
